Windows 7 support ending, upgrade to Windows 10 for free
Windows 7 is still my favorite version of Windows OS but sadly Microsoft is ending support for Windows 7 from 14 January 2020. Microsoft is encouraging users to upgrade their systems to Windows 10 for secure and smooth services. The Windows 10 Home operating system costs $139 on Microsoft’s website.
However, you need not necessarily pay that amount. Microsoft’s free upgrade offer that ended technically in 2016 still works.
In July 2015, when Windows 10 was first released, Microsoft offered a free upgrade to all the Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 users. However, in 2017, Ed Bott of ZDNet said that the free upgrade tool was still working. As of January 2020, some of the users are still able to make it work for them.
Microsoft will no longer provide technical support for any issues, security updates or fixes to Windows 7 users who do not upgrade their systems to the new version. According to analysts, it is best to update to Windows 10 to keep the computers safe.

If you have Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 8.1, you can upgrade to Windows 10 for free in the following manner.
How to upgrade to Windows 10 for FREE
- Visit the Download Windows 10 page on the Microsoft website.
- Go to Create Windows 10 Installation Media, click on the Download Tool Now and hit Run.
- Choose the option Upgrade This PC Now if you upgrading the PC you are using. Else, you can choose to Create Installation Media for another PC.
- Follow the on-screen instructions displayed on the screen.
- After the upgrade is complete, go to Settings Update & Security > Activation and you can see the digital license for Windows 10.
If you have Windows 7 or 8 Home License, you can upgrade to Windows 10 Home only. Alternatively, if you have Windows 7 or 8 Pro, you can get upgraded to Windows 10 Pro. This upgrade works for many and it isn’t just meant for the general consumer.
The Windows 10 experience will give you many advantages like passwordless sign-on. If you are a student or university teacher, you can download Windows 10 for free based on your university’s software settings.
